Laura Hale, like her brother, survived the fire that destroyed the Hale family and their home by not being there. As the strongest and healthiest remaining member of the pack, she became the Alpha. As soon as Derek graduated from Sunnydale High School, the two left town and were not heard from for several years.
For reasons as of yet unknown, they returned shortly before the Harvest. Laura was killed by a werewolf, and then cut in half by hunters. Half of the body was found by joggers, the other half by Scott McCall. Derek recovered the half Scott had found and buried her next to the Hale House. Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski later exhumed the body, and both halves of her corpse were reunited in the morgue.
